the large wooden cow has been out standing
in its field for a few years now
from time to time I've seen calves and cows
nursing and hanging around with it
once in the spring years ago
there was a small calf cavorting in front of it
trying to get it to play
or make a move maybe
I keep hoping that some miracle will happen
like the velveteen rabbit
also that when it happens
that missing ear will grow back
